Shirodhara

Shiro (head) dhara (flow)

Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic therapy that involves the continuous pouring of flowing warm liquid, with particular focus on the ‘third eye’ centre of the forehead and the crown of the head. This rejuvenating and meditative therapy helps to relieve mental, physical tension and anxiety. Feel your stress melt away as the warming liquids saturate the hair and scalp, in what can be described as a ‘meditative’ and even ‘trance’ like experience.

During this treatment, oils running over the ‘third eye’ work to have a balancing effect on the deepest recesses of the brain. The ‘third eye’ sits right between the eyebrows and can be described as our energy centre and place of deep intuition. Concentrating on the ‘third eye’ area can help bring about clarity and healing on a profound level.

In Ayurveda, the practice of Shirodhara is seen as a stimulating ritual for the nervous system. Lou will determine the duration of the pour according to your individual needs and your body type. Shirodhara should be practiced regularly and there are countless benefits that can be experienced from your treatment such as:

Reduction of fatigue, mental exhaustion, anxiety, nervousness, headaches, it can help to cure insomnia, improve your memory and concentration, increase your intuition and improve stress related digestion problems. In essence – Shirodhara rejuvenates your entire wellbeing. The affects of Shirodhara are accumulative, and therefore Lou Highly recommends doing a course of at least three Shirodharas over a period of three weeks.
